Wo liegt Springfield?

Es war lange Zeit ein Running Gag bei den Simpsons. Wo liegt eigentlich Springfield? Springfield soll den eine durschnittle US-Kleinstadt darstellen und damit potentiell “überall” in den USA liegen können. Daher gab es oft widersprüchliche Angaben in der Serie. Die Stadt liegt an der Küste, nahe der Wüste, mal an den Bergen. Und Ned Flanders behauptete im Simpsons Kinofilm, dass Ohio, Nevada, Maine und Kentucky angrenzende Staaten seien. Dabei liegen diese vier Staaten liegen quer über die USA verstreut. In einem Interview mit dem Smithsonian Mag verrät Matt Groening nun zumindest welches Springfield ihm als Vorbild für seine Kleinstadt diente:

“Springfield was named after Springfield, Oregon. The only reason is that when I was a kid, the TV show ‘Father Knows Best’ took place in the town of Springfield, and I was thrilled because I imagined that it was the town next to Portland, my hometown. When I grew up, I realized it was just a fictitious name. I also figured out that Springfield was one of the most common names for a city in the U.S. In anticipation of the success of the show, I thought, ‘This will be cool; everyone will think it’s their Springfield.’ And they do […] I don’t want to ruin it for people, you know? Whenever people say it’s Springfield, Ohio, or Springfield, Massachusetts, or Springfield, wherever, I always go, ‘Yup, that’s right.'”

Die endgültige Frage wo Springfield liegt ist damit natürlich nicht geklärt, aber immerhin wissen wir nun, wo das Vorbild für die Zeichentrickstadt zu finden ist.
